Preparing together for hot summer days - RIVM
May 2025
The summer season is just around the corner - a time of sun and heat, but also of risk for vulnerable groups. In a recent newsletter, RIVM stresses the importance of preparing for heat. Elderly people, young children and people with chronic conditions are more at risk of health problems in high temperatures.
That's why the RIVM is calling for: take care of each other in heat. From May to September, the National Heat Plan can be activated. Then RIVM, KNMI, GGDs and the Red Cross together inform and support the population. The evaluation of the current Heat Plan will be published on June 2 (Heat Action Day) on the RIVM website.
How can you properly prepare for the heat? RIVM has listed several resources:
Heat menu card - Overview of heat effects, goals and measures for municipalities.
Local Heat Plan Guide. - For creating local plans together with partners.
GGD guideline: heat and health - Practical support and background information.
Summer and heat website - GGD Environment. - Information for citizens on heat and health.
Communication tools heat and health - Animations, infographics and tips around the Heat Plan.
Within the GoHot project we map the impact of heat and pollen on health and work on solutions. By sharing knowledge and being well prepared, together we contribute to a healthy, safe summer.
